Event calendar for 2026 released

2026 is finally here, in fact we’re already a quarter into its second month. Dates are still being worked out for some events, but a preliminary event calendar is now available for the perusal of members and interested parties alike. If any of these events pique your interest, please contact us.

Upcoming events

21/22 March Toowoomba Club Hip Pocket Challenge

This takes place at Southbrook showgrounds. Runs all day Saturday, with 20, 40 and 80km rides. This is normally an easy and well-run event (see 2023, 2024 and 2025 reports).

18/19 April, Warwick Club, Inglewood

This is a new event, taking place on the Saturday with 20, 40 and 80km rides.

9/10 May Kokoda Challenge, Kenilworth

Assisting the Kokoda Youth Foundation in running the Sunshine Coast Kokoda Challenge. This is traditional emergency communications message passing. The event takes place in Connondale National Park.

16/17 May, Kilkivan, AERA

This is a big horse endurance ride event with 40km, 100km, 120km and 160km rides (FEI 1*, 2* and 3*). This event goes for two days, with 6 checkpoints required.

13/14 June, Widgee

A small horse endurance ride event with 40km and 80km rides.

14th June, Dementia Australia Memory Walk & Jog, Rocks Riverside Park

One of the few events we cover that actually takes place within the Brisbane City Council local government area. Here we’re mostly setting up borrowed equipment for Dementia Australia volunteers to use at checkpoints for the Brisbane Memory Walk & Jog.

4/5 July, TOM QUILTY GOLD CUP – QERA, Stirlings Crossing

The Tom Qulity Gold Cup is an annual horse endurance ride event where competitors from around the world must ride 160km within 24 hours. From the WICEN side, both FM voice and AX.25 packet radio is utilised.

14/15/16 August, Pacific Airshow

The Gold Coast Pacific Airshow is an annual 3-day aeronautical demonstration event. From WICEN’s perspective, we provide the organisers at the Gold Coast with information of departure and arrival of aircraft from various airports around the greater Brisbane area.

7/8 November, Dingo Creek, Wondai

Last year we assisted Dingo Creek for the first time, and found it to be a well-run and enjoyable event. Once again, we’ve been asked to assist. 20km, 40km and 80km rides all take place on the Saturday.
